Why are Fall and Winter Good for Roofing Work?

It may sound dubious given how rainy November through February can be, but it’s a good idea to have roofing work done in the fall and winter. Whether the impending job involves maintenance or an installation, here are the two main reasons why you should be doing it soon.

Perfect timing

Fall tends to be the most popular season for roofing work – not the least because the onset of rain, wind, and falling leaves forces many property owners to call for inspections.

The season makes for good timing, as people can make sure entire roof systems are sturdy and functional for the winter. Fixing leaks and clogs that pop up during early rains prevents such problems from worsening when harsher conditions set in.

The fall also offers an ideal temperature for installing certain shingles, which become brittle in the cold yet overly pliable under too much heat.

Off-peak opportunity

However, winters are mild in California; without near-freezing temperatures, roofing work can also proceed very late in the year.

No one would repair or install roofs during the winter unless absolutely necessary, right? Right. That’s one more reason why you should time and try it for yourself.

You could have your pick of quality roofing companies as many of their clients are unlikely to book them through the off-peak season. You could also have your pick of materials, since these tend to be cheaper at this time of year.

While there will be chances for rain, fog, or even snow in the winter months, you could expect the elements not to derail the job. Still, keep in mind that the temperature and conditions can affect how and how long work is done.

Roofers need not risk their safety to complete a job during wintertime, so there might be some delays. Extending completion time may be a reasonable pay-off for other things you might save.
